About MGNS >> Staff
I am so happy to be here at MGNS. After 3 years as a MGNS parent, I am thrilled to be an MGNS teacher and the School Director. Before my two children were born, I taught for several years grades between kindergarten and fourth. Now my kids are all grown up, so I love spending time with the kids here at MGNS. I am also a happy resident of Monona and an active volunteer throughout the city. It is a busy and perfect combination—I am so pleased to be a part of this cooperative community.

My name is Juli Huston and I am so excited to be here at MGNS! I am married with 2 active boys who are both MGNS alumni. I graduated from Drake University with a degree in Biology. In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family - camping, hiking, and playing pretty much any sport. I look forward to spending time with each child and helping them grow and learn. We’re going to have a great year!

Hello – My name is Jodi and it is my pleasure to be able to continue my teaching career at Monona Grove Nursery School. I have taught preschool for many, many years. In addition I have an Elementary Education degree from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, and currently hold a substitute license for the Madison Metropolitan School District. I’ve also taught first grade in Atlanta and Minneapolis prior to moving back to Madison. I am married to my wonderful husband and we have two amazing kids. I look forward to starting another exciting year teaching at MGNS.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Pre K- 3rd grade teaching degree with an emphasis on birth to five. I fell in love with MGNS when my 2 children attended and knew I wanted to teach/work here! I love the play-based philosophy and how involved our families are in the school; it’s such a gentle transition from home to school. My husband, Paul, and I love to travel, which is perfect because our children are grown and attend school far from home! We are also on a quest to find the perfect beach. I love to read, snuggle my pets, laugh, hang out with friends and cook from scratch.

My name is Stephanie Ehlers. I graduated from Winona State University in 2010 with a teaching degree in Early Childhood Education & Elementary Education. I strive to always remain a learner and have been working toward becoming a Spanish speaker. I really enjoy speaking and learning with the students in another language. Outside of the classroom, I can be found working out at the gym, watching sports, being active outside, or binge watching my favorite TV shows. I spend a lot of time going for walks with my very large dog, Echo and coach gymnastics in DeForest. I am very thankful for the great staff and community at MGNS!

My name is Patrice Stadler and I am so happy to be one of the Toddler Time teachers at Monona Grove Nursery School. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University. My husband, Dennis, and I have three daughters, Marissa, Ashley and Hannah. They are all MGNS alumni. We loved being part of a parent cooperative because it gave us the opportunity to be in our children's classrooms and allowed us to get to know their teachers and friends. I jumped at the chance to teach at MGNS after my youngest daughter started kindergarten and I feel so lucky to work with such wonderful families!

I have four brothers, four sisters, 14 nieces and nephews, and 4 great-nieces and -nephews, so I’ve spent my whole life around kids. I enjoy talking and playing with young ones, because they’re so honest & genuine. I love art projects, and I believe all art tells a story. I have a BA in design from Southern Illinois University, and feel fortunate to be able to share what I learned there with children. I live in Madison with my family, including my two daughters who attended MGNS. I am honored to be a part of this exciting time in the lives of you and your child.

After moving from the west side of Madison to McFarland, we found MGNS for my youngest and in the 3 1/2 years she was here, it became like a family to us. I am so lucky that I got to come back and be a part of this wonderful staff. Working with the kids at MGNS puts a smile on my face every day - we have so much fun playing, cooking and creating masterpieces! I have a degree in Psychology from UW Madison. I am married and have two fabulous and very active daughters who enjoy swimming, soccer and crafting. In my free time I enjoy baking, walking, and I absolutely love to read (I have over 15 years of experience working with books). Please ask me about my favorite children's books!

I’ve enjoyed my time at home with my three children all of whom have or are MGNS students. But, I also missed playing and working with other peoples children. Before raising my own kids, I earned a degree in special education and worked for 10 years in various environments with kids between two and six. I also took care of other peoples children in my home. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to teach part time at MGNS again this year. It’s very gratifying to be part of a wonderful team of teachers and surrounded by this friendly community. When I’m not spending time with my family outdoors, I enjoy rock climbing, running and cooking.

Our daughter attended MGNS for 3 years of preschool/4K plus one session of Toddler Time. It was her favorite place. She loved going to school, seeing her friends, her wonderful teachers and getting to play and do so many fun things. Upon picking her up she would tell me EVERYTHING she did, what stories they read, what the art project was, what they had for a snack and what she did when they played outside. Every year she had at least one day of lunch bunch, which was a great learning tool for how lunch will be when she starts kindergarten. MGNS became like family to us and we are very sad to be leaving. But we will be back to visit! —Dawn Van Horn, McFarland
We drove over a half an hour to bring our inquisitive, gentle son to MGNS. After looking at many preschool programs, we knew that MGNS was exactly what we and he needed - A preschool with knowledgeable, kind teachers and a program that would stimulate his mind. Although not my personal goal, our son left MGNS ready for kindergarten. Thank you, MGNS, for giving our child a love for lifelong learning!"
— Aija and Erik Kins, Lake Mills
The cooperative nature of Monona Grove Nursery School creates an openness and transparency that you just don't see in other schools. You are welcomed, from the start, to be an integral part of your child's education." —Jessica, parent and board member
My daughter absolutely loves her class at MGNS. She has learned so much, and even more importantly, she is excited about learning. Every day, she asks if it's a school day. MGNS has amazing resources, excellent teachers, and a strong sense of community. We love MGNS!“
— Alyssa Luckey-Winters, Madison
MGNS 4-K class was our child's first exposure to school, and it was a perfect one. She learned so much about cooperation, clean-up, art, nature, Spanish words, letters and numbers, music, books and the joy of being part of a group! Her teachers are a perfect balance of temperaments and gifts. I feel as if our family hit the jackpot in this class at Monona Grove!” —Gwen Ebert, Madison
My son was in the afternoon 4K program at Monona Grove Nursery School. He loved the teachers and the play-based learning activities. He learned so much, including a foundation in English and Spanish phonemic awareness that has prepared him well for Kindergarten at Nuestro Mundo Community School. He made many friends from inside and outside the neighborhood, many of whom are in the same school again this year. We're so glad he was able to attend this program.” —Joshua Forehand, Principal of Nuestro Mundo Community School
As our family enters our 5th and final year at MGNS, I am struck by many feelings, mostly of gratitude. We are so fortunate to have been a part of this community. From the Toddler Time program, to preschool, 4K and lunch bunch, they have all been wonderful programs. The staff is caring and communicative, and being a part of a co-operative school has been a wonderful experience. I enjoy my time in the classroom, seeing my children at play. My kids making wonderful friendships and I too have made strong connections with other parents. Being on the board of directors has also been a great opportunity. To the supportive MGNS community, I say, "Thank you!"—Margo Duffy
MGNS is a loving, nurturing and joyful playing and learning environment, and a community of caring, intelligent and involved families who enrich each other's lives. It is so much more than just a place to "get ready for kindergarten." It is a place where my children are thriving and blossoming, and learning to follow their interests and discover new ones.”—Alison Downey, Madison
As a new mom with a high energy 15 month old, I could not have found a better learning environment for the both of us! Toddler Time gave us a safe, fun and nurturing environment where no question of mine was too silly to ask; as a new mother I looked forward to talking with other moms and dads to see how they dealt with all of the unknowns of raising kids! I now chase two high energy little boys around the halls and we feel blessed to be part of the Monona Grove Nursery School Community...I will always remember the day when my oldest son first sat through an entire story during circle time (Digger Man)...every mom and dad in the room...
